24th feb 2016 : My first post
Created this blog to primarily share my favourite recipes, and gardening updates. However knowing myself I might write on any topic which is on top of my head at that moment.
I am Pallavi a working mom of 2 hyperactive kids, a Kannadiga by birth, grown up in Hyderabad, married to an Andhraite and now living in namma Bengaluru. So in short a totally confused Indian.
About the name of blog “Oota Ayita”, I am sure if you are a Kannadiga you won’t need any explanation. And For all my non kannadiga friends it means ” Did you have your meal”. Its the most used sentence in our house, at least by my mom.. Whenever she would call, she would start the conversation by asking “oota ayita”.
Talking of the meal, the most difficult part of cooking is to decide what to cook.
You should ask my dad and he would narrate a most often repeated story…How my mom would ask him what should she make and everything that he would suggest would be struck off with various reasons like veggies are not available, it doesnot go well with rice, its too heavy for dinner! to name a few. And mom would finally make what she had already decided to make.. My dad would end up saying why wont you make what you have already decided.
Me in my mid thirties now, see mimicking my mom at least in asking my hubby what should I make. However I try not to strike off his suggestions 🙂
Off late its irritating to see same set of veggies day after day in the market .. especially when you are used to a full course meal everyday. I have been trying new recipes searching youtube for many years now. The varieties I have tried range from Sindhi, Thai, Punjabi, Tamilian, Keralite, and of course our own Karnataka and Andhra recipes.
I hope to share a few of my favourite recipes through this blog ! some which have been passed on by my mom and Attaya, Some learnt over google/ youtube and some my own creations, more of a fusion.
Being a working mom I have tried to learn both the quick fix dishes and others which require elaborate cooking reserved for weekends. Will attempt to share both the kinds.
Will post my first recipe tomorrow… It will definitely need more editing and proof reading as I am new to writing. Have a good night friends and good day for people on other side of globe.
Pallavi
